I am from Wyoming and spent much of my childhood on my family's ranch, and in my small hometown. That all changed when I graduated from high school. I made the decision to take a year off and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico. During that year abroad, I volunteered with Projects Abroad, an international volunteer company. Living in a different culture changed my life and gave me the perspective I needed to study for a college degree. I returned to the United States and started college in the fall of 2010.

In high school I became part of Rotary International through Interact club as an extracurricular. My love of humanitarian service led me to continue into my college years. I am now a member of Rotaract club. After college I plan to become a rotarian and remain dedicated to the Rotary International's mission, "Service above Self."

I am also a part of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. A combination of my previous service work and maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher has warranted my membership into NSCS. This organization has provided me with networking, leadership and community service opportunities.

I have attended both Westminster College and Salt Lake Community College for my general and prerequisite studies. As of May 2013 I received an Associates of Science in General Studies. I am currently applying to several different Bachelor of Nursing programs. My top choice is University of Utah however I am also looking out of state. Once I receive a BSN degree I plan on focusing my career in public health both in the United States and in third world countries.

Part of my volunteer experience in Mexico included working as a surgical assistant, and critical care aid with my mentor Dr. Ruben Ovaro in several health care settings. I have returned several times to work with him in his new clinic in a rural village outside Guadalajara, Mexico.
